Global warming, or normal for Mojacar? On our patio t´s been 38º in the shade! Perhaps we should have along Siesta in the afternoon and Sail in the evenings. Having said that, we had a most enjoyable sail last Thursday afternoon. We took “Sheba” our 18 ft micro cruiser out in a steady force 2, relatively flat sea, the light wind was Easterly, in no time at all, we were off Macenas beach; all it needed was a very gentle hand on the tiller. I had a good crew with Karen and Stan keeping an eye on the sails and Houri keeping a eye on us all. Stan took the tiller at the return journey; 4 hours on the blue Mediterranean, what more could we ask!
On Saturday the 16th it was Garrucha Saint´s day: “Virgen del Carmen”; the Local inhabitants were celebrating the occasion very near our Dinghy park with Tapas and giant Paella, music and dancing; We were invited. The area was well covered with canvas so we were in the shade. We thank them for their generosity and hospitality.
Garrucha will be the place to visit on the 6th and 7th on August; It´s the “IberCaja Bank Regatta”.
Sailing Cruisers will visit us from Aguilas, Mazarón and possibly Almería. Will we be represented?
I sincerely hope so; Last year, Ian sailing “Blitzen”was 2nd in his Class. I underestand there will be a 30 € fee for competing boats; The cash will go to the “Down Sindrome”and “Asprodalba” charities.
There was a Race last Sunday the 17th, organize by the Garrucha Cruisers; it was the usual course to Villaricos Fish farm and back. The winner was our local chemist Miguel and family. He started sailing in a 420 sailing dinghy which is now part of our dinghy fleet.
