Santa Irene Club de Vela Newsletter - 27th April 2011
Not the weather we expected for the end of April, never nevertheless our enthusiastic sailors have been on the water. Having cruisers in the Club, as well as dinghies means a dozen or more of our sailors were able to enjoy their sailing without getting wet! Not so for Lyndon, Amanda and Craig flying along on the Catalac and Hobicat , they were out there for the Fun!
On the good days, the “Pastinaca” has been out on the quiet waters of the Marina with Rodolfo giving lessons to Paco and Miguel.
Not long now to the launching of “Sheba” our 18 ft. sailing cruiser, thanks to Stan and Karen who have been refitting her, plenty of room for 4 plus the coffee-maker in the cockpit.
For the youngsters we have Toppers and Oppies just waiting to go on the water. Start now! Become a sailing instructor and they could travel the World working in some of the most exotic places.
You will find Royal Yachting Ass. courses in the Mar Menor, Menorca sailing and the Rockley Academy in the UK and France. In a few years time you could be crewing a 65 ft. yacht, read the Argan Baily story on our website, he is now the Skipper!
I see the lasses Dee Caffari and Anna Corbella have sailed into the record books, when they crossed the Finishing line in the “Barcelona World Race” in 6th place. They completed their non stop World Race of 28.653 nautical miles in 102 days 19 hours. The Race started on the 31st of December 2010, 14 sixty foot yachts crossed the line, at this date, 8 have completed the circumnavigation.
Only a few years ago Anna was racing her “470” dinghy and now who knows her future.
Our lady sailors have benn on the water too, Sue owner and Slipper of her “Macgregor 26” has just completed a cruise in local waters, first to Aguilas then on to Mazaron , then a return trip directly to Garrucha. Another sailor Lynne, is planing a cruise in the future, she too raced a “470” dinghy and sailed on Tallships where to next?
Should you wish to know what was happening in our Club a few years ago, look at the “Archived Newsletters”on the website.
Checking the popularity of the Club in Google recently, I put in “Sailing Club Spain” guess what , we were number one on the first page.
Look forward to seeing you any weekend at El Rincon del Puerto, Garrucha, 11 am onwards
Take care.
