“Michael row the Boat ashore, Hallelujah” and again! After 7 years, 6 months and 16 days have we arrived?
The Port Authority of Garrucha have recognized us as a serious Sailing Club, bringing Dinghy Sailing to the area. We were the “First” Sailors to use the New Slipway although it,s not totally finished, we were given permision to use it. So, last Sunday, the 15th of November, 5 Dinghies were taken from our dinghy park and launched with no problems. It was the maiden voyage for the 17 ft 6 in. “Osprey” in Spanish Waters. Unfortunately, we had a small problem with the Main Halyard but that will be put right for its next outing. We can look forward to the New Year with enthusiam.
We now have more than 20 Dinghies which include 4 Classic boats plus 2 Catamarans. Our Club House “Rincon de Puerto” will be Cosy in the winter and a Slipway, Yes! We have arrived, a Big Thank you to Don Alfonso and to the Lads and Lasses that turn up for coffee on Sunday morning.
Without a doubt, the iSares Regatta in Almeria was the biggest sailing event in Andalucia this year, involving thousands of Spectators. Although, iSharse have withdrawn their Baking “OC Events” have confirmed the European Series will be with us again next year.
Also, an “Asia Series” will start on the 20th of November in Hong Kog with 6 “Extreme 40” Catamarans taking part. The next event will be in Singapore in December 11th to the 15th then on to Muscat, Oman February the 1st to the 5th 2010.
The Extreme 40 “Rumbo Almería” will be Racing with our own Shirley Robertson as Skipper along with Ian Walker, if you remember, Ian was Skipper of “Green Dragon” in the “Volvo Ocean Race”.
Another competitor will be the winner of the European Series “Oman Masirah”, also China will be involved with their own Extreme 40, it´s possible the number of Venues will increase to involve India or Thailand. It´s an Event you should not miss in Almeria next year, we will be there.

Sailing News Sol Times - 11th November 2009
Sorry you didn´t receive the last "Sailing News". I sent off the pigeons as usual, Floppy, the one destined for Albox didn´t arrive, while Spitfire had no trouble finding her way to Robin in Ringwood, you will now find our news on the website, plus much more information. "Christmas has arrived early for Santa Irene", after a meeting with Don Alfonso, the Jefe of Garrucha Port Authority, he has given us permission to use the New Slipway, so this Sunday, the 15th, we will be testing it out.
It´s not the official opening of the Slipway, I doubt there will be one. However, we will
commemorate it with our own celebration early in the December. We must keep in mind this is a Commercial Slipway not just for Santa Irene. Never the less, it is a big step forward for the Sport of Dinghy Sailing in the Levante Almeriense. During the light weather, we were able to launch some of our light weight dinghies off the Playa, near the the Virgen del Mar, Garrucha.
The constuction of the Harbour Extension is now complete, I guess, the Pontooms will be built early in the new year. It has created a large Lagoon where our dinghies can assemble on the water again, promoting our sport, the idea of the iShares Regatta in Almeria, was to bring sailing to the people, we will be doing our bit.
More good news, the number of people arriving on Sunday morning at the "Rincon del Puerto", our Club House, for a Coffee and a chat, grows each week, but where are the young people?
