What with the Extreme 40 Catamarans in Almeria and the possibility of setting up a “Branch” for the “Jubilee sailing Trust”; in the hope that we may encourage a disabled person to take to the high seas in on of their Tall Ships; I haven´t had an opportunity to write about “our Club”.
Last Sunday, they were 25 of us having Coffee at the Club house “El Rincón del Puerto” over looking the Marina. A few of us had been on the water on Saturday, What a good day it was for me, with a steady 6 or 7 knots of wind on a flat sea with the boat sailing her self. Mid week, on Wednesday, there were 3 boats out taking advantage of the weather.
We now have over 30 boats in the Club; Some of them haven´t been on the water for many months. I´m hoping some youngsters will visit us one day to share the enjoyment of sailing them.
What are the boats you may ask? “Optimists” for the 7 to 15 year olds; most of our Olympic Sailors (UK) started sailing in them. A “Cadet” for the teenagers. “Toppers”, a real fun boat if you don´t mind getting wet. There is also a “Funboat” in the Club,it is a Laser Catamaran, which belongs to Trevor. Other Catamarans are the “Hobie” and “Catapult”. Back to the dinghies, single handers, the “Solo”, the “Europe”, the “Phantom” for the heavy weights. Double handers, “Pastinacas”, the “Lark” widely used in universities. The “420´s” which is now recognised as the premier youth training dinghy with a trapeze. The “Wayfarer”, a classic all-round family boat.
So, we move on from the “Optimist” at 7 ft 6 in. (2.3 m) to the “Osprey” at 17 ft 6 in.
(5.83 m) our largest dinghy with a crew of 2 or 3 one on the Trapeze.; it´s very fast.
Our Classic boats: the “Tideway”, the “Petit Brise”, the “Kittiwake”, the “Devon Yawl” and “Drascombe Longboat”.
Oh! I almost forgot that very elegant 5 metres plus sailing dinghy from Düsseldorf. We look forward to Bernd returning to us in the new year.
I am sure our sailing Cruiser fleet will grow too in the new year to add to the 18 ft Micro cruiser, the 19 ft Pelwist, the 25 ft Delha, the 26 ft MacGregor.
I´m confident, we will continue expanding. If you are interested and want to know more come and have a coffee with us at “El Rincón del Puerto” Garrucha, 11 am, Saturday or Sunday.
Take care.
